Wendy has a BS in Special Education from ECU, a Birth-Kindergarten add-on licensure and is beginning a Masters program in Educational Leadership Policy and Advocacy in Early Childhood from UNCW - starting Fall 2015. Wendy has been in the education field for 21 years, 15 of which have been spent working in the early childhood field! Wendy first joined the WPCC as a parent in 2009 and then as a staff member in 2010. Her favorite apart about WPCC is the small family feel! The staff all work together and know all the students; they are open-minded, diverse, educated and most importantly are at WPCC because they believe in our mission. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children watching movies and going to the beach! She also enjoys reading, sudoku, yoga, eating out and shopping! ``Believe`` is Wendy's favorite word! Her glass is always half-full or overflowing, and she is a true Cary-ite!
Nicole has worked with children and their families for 9 years and earned a degree in Special Education: General Curriculum and a Birth-Kindergarten add-on licensure from UNCG. She taught in the Wake County System as a Resource Teacher for kindergarten and first grade students before joining the White Plains staff in August 2010. She was a Lead Teacher for the Bear classroom for two years before transitioning to administration. ``My favorite part about WPCC is the family feel. The fact that everyone knows not only each child, but their parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. It allows for a truly cohesive approach towards ensuring our students develop to their greatest potential.`` In her free time she enjoys being by the water, spending time with family and friends, shopping, running and watching Duke Basketball!
Madison graduated from Appalachian State with a BS in Social Work. She began at WPCC teaching in the Pandas class in January 2013 and has since transitioned into administration. Madison loves building relationships with the families and staff of WPCC. Madison enjoys catching the fun, silly and sweet moments around the center and sharing them with you through social media. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, reading , spending time with her family and UK basketball, GO WILDCATS!
Kellie is a San Diego native who moved to Raleigh 6 years ago. Kellie has over 15 years experience in the non-profit sector, mostly in finance and administration, and she joined the WPCC team in January 2015. Kellie's favorite aspect about working at WPCC, is ``seeing how passionate the teachers and staff are about the children and our mission and hearing stories about how far kids have progressed while attending WPCC.`` When she isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, son and our their new dog, Dylan; working out, especially spin classes. Kellie also loves to cook for family and friends. ``Go Chargers!``
Tanika joined the WPCC staff in January 2013 after graduation from NC Central with a BA in Psychology. Tanika said, ``At WPCC, I enjoy all the hugs, smiles and laughter the children bring to my life daily!`` In her free time she enjoys spending time with her daughter, going shopping, watching movies and hanging out with friends! Elena joined the WPCC staff in June 2014 and has over 18 years experience working in the early childhood field. She has both Infant and Toddler/ Preschool certifications and she attended the Urban College of Boston and Cambridge College. ``At WPCC, I enjoy the family atmosphere, the inclusiveness that WPCC offers the children and the families, to see the children's smiles and the love they express to us when they feel safe and loved - I definitely love what I do!`` Away from WPCC, Elena enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and listening to music.
Elizabeth ``Liz`` graduated from NC State with a BA in Communication. She joined the WPCC staff in November of 2014. Over the years, Liz has babysat and nannied for many children; Liz stated that she loves WPCC for the smiling faces of all the adorable children and fun-loving staff! In Liz's time away from work she loves reading and is obsessed with her Kindle. She also enjoys painting and crafting of all kinds; Exercise, including yoga, Zumba, Pure Barre, and some running. Liz also works part-time as a bartender at PNC Arena. Her favorite quote is ``You're mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.`` -Lewis Carrol
Jami has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood from Rowan Cabarrus CC and is finishing up her Bachelors Degree in Birth-Kindgarten Education from UNCG. Jami joined the WPCC staff in July 2014 and said ``At WPCC, I enjoy feeling that when I come to work I am part of a family, not just among the staff but the families we serve as well. Everyone greets everyone and it is a wonderful place to come to everyday. My son also attends and he loves the center and has learned so much since starting.`` Away from WPCC, Jami enjoys spending time with her husband, son, friends and family, going to the beach or pool, reading, & shopping.
Rachel graduated from NC State with a BA in Communications and is the process of going back to school to earn her Birth-Kindergarten license. Rachel joined the WPCC team in February 2015, and said ``I love working at WPCC because it feels like I gained a big family. All the staff members, children, and families are so wonderful in many ways - I learn new things every day I go to work. I can truly say I love my job and that joining WPCC has been the best decision I have ever made!`` Away from WPCC, Rachel loves to read, cook, bake, watch football and hang out with her dog, Beau. Rachel also has a little bit of a Disney obsession and love all things Disney; if anyone ever needs tips on Disney World, she's your girl!
Mary Beth joined the WPCC in June 2015. Mary Beth graduated with a BA in Music from Campbell University. Mary Beth has worked with children for several years including working with the children's music program at Edenton UMC, leading preschool music classes and nannying. Mary Beth shared that she enjoys WPCC ``because we actually get to spend time playing with the kids, allowing us to build relationships that are stronger than simply being their teachers``. In her free time Mary Beth enjoys music, sewing, and crafts.
Janitta joined the WPCC staff in March of 2011. She has worked as the lead teacher to both the Turtles class and now the Bears class. Janitta has an Associate's degree in Human Services and a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education with a NC Birth-Kindergarten teaching licensure. Janitta said, ``There are many reason as to why I enjoy working at WPCC. I believe true growth as a person can happen only by challenging yourself with situations that are unfamiliar to you. Throwing yourself into a job in which you can encounter people of different social economic status', ethnicities, religions and with different philosophies, learning styles, and backgrounds can only cause you to grow as a person, and WPCC provides that environment.`` Janitta spends her free time surrounded by family and friends, traveling, shopping and watching my favorite movies.
Tasia had been at WPCC since June 2005. She attended Wake Tech. and obtained the Early Childhood Education Certificate and her Credentials 1 & 2. Tasia's favorite aspect of WPCC, ``is meeting and becoming a part of many different families``. Away from WPCC, Tasia enjoys babysitting and has kept up with many of our past and current families, watching the children grow. In her free time, Tasia enjoys thrifting, cleaning and working out.
Qui graduated from North Carolina Central University in December 2014 with a degree in History and concentrations in Women Studies and Education. After graduation, Qui joined the WPCC staff in January 2015. Qui stated, ``I enjoy the children and staff at WPCC. They put the biggest smile on my face everyday. ``Qui is expecting her first (and if you ask her, her last) child, and in her free time she enjoys decorating the nursery, playing with the children in her community and family, reading and going to lectures.
Brianna ``Bri`` went to Stevenson University in MD and earned her bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. Her NC teaching license is K-6th grade with a Pre-K add-on licensure. Bri has been working in the field of Early Childhood since 2007 and taught Pre-K in MD before joining the WPCC staff is August 2013. Bri's favorite aspect about WPCC is the feeling of family at WPCC including the relationships between staff-staff, staff-parents, and parents-parents. She also enjoys that the children constantly challenge her to be the best teacher she can be. In her free time, Bri enjoys playing with her dogs, reading, and watching sports. Go Ravens and Orioles!!
Amanda has earned her Early Childhood Certificate and has over 11 years experience working with children. She joined White Plains Children’s Center in February 2004 and says she loves WPCC because, ``I love being able to go to work and not be judged. I can be silly, goofy, loving, and caring because they love me the way I am. We think we are teaching the children, but they are actually teaching us.`` Her primary interests are her two young sons, but in her free time she enjoys anything dealing with arts and crafts or cheering on her Louisville Cardinals. Mrs. Amanda shared that her favorite kid quote is ``Mrs. Amanda, would you be my at school mommy? But not if I'm sick, I need my real mommy then, but other than that will you?``
Carol is a mother and grandmother and has worked at WPCC for over 23 years. Before joining the WPCC staff, Carol has her son enrolled at WPCC back in the early 80's. She says, “I love my job and the children - these children feed my heart and I hear the food is pretty good too!”. Outside of WPCC, her interests include swimming, tanning, gardening, watching TV, reading, cooking and spending time with her grand-babies.
Maria has earned the NC Child Care Credentials 1 & 2 and Early Educator Certification. She began her experience in child care by interning while in school and started working with the WPCC family in April 2005. Maria shared ``My passion is to teach young children. The highlight of my day at WPCC is watching a child eyes light up when they learn/try something new. WPCC also allows family to express their cultural traditions. Being from the Hispanic background this is very important to me. It allows me to interpret for some our our dual language learners.`` In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and they enjoys doing various arts and crafts together as well as outdoor adventures. Lindsay attended East Carolina University where she studied Special Education-Adapted Curriculum. Through her courses at ECU, she had the opportunity to observe and work with students having a variety of needs. Lindsay joined WPCC in August 2014. In her free time Lindsay enjoys reading , watching movies, cooking, and spending time with friends and family, especially her niece Emerson.
